EOPD strives to maintain an inclusive environment free from discrimination and harassment at Florida International University. We are responsible for advancing, upholding, reaffirming, and monitoring policies and procedures that ensure the University complies with all applicable federal, state, local, and internal mandates. Our services include:

  • Investigating complaints of unlawful discrimination against men and women on the basis of any federally protected category including sex; any group which shares a common race, religion, color, or national origin; people over 40; people with physical or mental disabilities; Pregnancy Discrimination; and veterans of the United States military.

  • Providing guidance regarding policies and mediating disputes between FIU personnel and/or students.

  • Communicating the University’s commitment of inclusivity by conducting trainings in a number of key areas including Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) policies, Affirmative Action (AA) legislation, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and amendments, sexual harassment, as well as diversity policies, procedures, programs and initiatives.

  • Assisting with the coordination of reasonable and appropriate accommodations for employees with documented disabilities.

  • Serving as the liaison to the Board of Governors and Federal agencies regarding Affirmative Action and equal opportunity guidelines and compliance.

  • Promoting a culturally diverse and inclusive working and learning environment where current and prospective faculty, staff, and students are treated fairly and valued for their individuality.

  • Aiding in the recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty, staff, and administration.

  • Publishing the University’s Search and Screen Procedures Handbook annually.

  • Managing the University’s Access and Equity Committee and its efforts.

  • Awarding aid to qualifying candidates through the following programs: Delores A. Auzenne Fellowship, Employee Grant-in Aid, and the Minority Community College Transfer Scholarship.
